Return to We Have Arrived !!!
Hello Folks as Porky Pig says,
We are in Mexico again. I will just give you a few highlights of our trip in this letter and add a few pictures of the ranch as we had a new camera and did not take any pictures on the way down as you have all seen it before on our previous trips.
It is Sunday morning October 26th and we arrived on Tuesday October 21st about supper time after two weeks travel. Tired but glad to be home on the ranch. I will just get a bit of this done this morning as we are getting ready to go to church in Alamos.
Larry drained the water in the house and we slept our first night in our new luxurious 5th wheel in front of the house the night of the 7th. God has been good to us as we never expected to have anything this nice to live in for the 6 months that we travelled and lived in Mexico. We thank both Leonard and Jim as they have been a great blessing with their advise and Leonard with the purchase of the truck, 5th wheel and screened tent. God has certainly worked through both of you and many other people to get us here. There are just so many people involved and we are the fortunate ones to benefit from the experience.
Woke up Tuesday morning and headed for Truro, the long way around as the boat is too expensive with a rig this size. Larry had never driven a diesel before nor hauled a 5th wheel so it was a long test drive of 7000km!!!!!!!!!
Normal day, good driving until I fell to sleep and woke up to find Larry looking for diesel fuel in the Wentworth Valley. Not a good place to find diesel fuel but we finally did find the only station as the gauge was recording nearly empty. Not only fuel but as stopping place for the night and an experienced truck driver to park it for us. Luck???????
Up early the next morning and headed for NB. Good driving again but decided to stop at a campsite that night as we didn’t know how true our camper gauges were recording and thought it might be wise to dump. We stopped about an hours drive south of Campbellton at a park which was officially closed but she gladly opened for us and gave us a pull through site. The next question was "Are you going through Lafayette Louisiana?"
Well we had not planned to go that way but cut more diagonally across the states but when she told us the reason why we said "Certainly". Apparently in Louisiana they are allowed to teach French to the children but the school provides no books so Noella had collected up MANY MANY French books and had no way to get them there. So we decided to go to Louisiana.
She was one happy lady. We left there the next morning with not only 15 boxes of French school books but home made cookies, banana bread, Frozen strawberries and Raspberries, two bicycles, Lots of electrical supplies, socks and underwear and knit goods for the children here on the ranch.
The next day was an uneventful trip to Ottawa and Teo and Judy provided us with a great camping spot on a side street in the city just by their back door. Gracious hosts as usual and Teo helped Larry with a few problems with the camper.
Left there on Saturday Morning to go to London to spend Thanksgiving with Larry’s Son Stephen and Ellen and the three children. Toronto is worst than usual for driving. Solid traffic and traffic jams even on Saturday afternoon. Arrived at Stephen’s around three just as Ellen’s parents arrived and had a great weekend. Got to see one of Jackie’s first hockey practices as she has switched from figure skating to hockey after many years and her skating is helping a lot. She is 10. Alex who is 8 also plays hockey and Becca who is 3 just plays.
Becca landed on my lap as soon as we got there and was sitting with Larry or I the whole time. A really loveable child. Larry had time to spend with each of the children individually, telling Jackie many things about the mission and I think really opening her eyes to the way that other people live, Alex is really interested in the Titanic and he and Larry had a long talk about that and of course Becca is just about Larry’s age so they had lots of fun!!!!!!
All in all a great visit and is Ellen a wonderful cook, she just fed and fed us. I really need to work some of this off in Mexico.
Left on Monday morning to cross into the States which is not a pleasant chore these days. They pulled us over and made us go inside as they checked the whole vehicle even the bedclothes. Took all my hamburger that I had purchased to cook for the boys down here even though we had been told we could bring it with us. About 15 lbs which I had to replace in the states. It took them about an hour to search the camper and we were glad to be on our way.
The rest of the trip is a blur as it was eat, sleep and drive from one state to another but the fall colours in the trees were beautiful both in Canada and the US.
Got hot when we hit Louisiana and stayed that way but is beginning to cool off at nights now to the high 50’s and 80’s in the daytime.
Larry is pouring cement for a couple of days, Spent one day helping Mike revamp the FM radio station and in a couple of weeks we will be moving to a better campsite on the ranch and have our own internet which will be much simpler as this has to be moved to disc and loaded on the community computer. Also new computer system going in which should be faster and more reliable.
We are having all the villages that we minister to here on November 9th for the day for services, food and games. Should be quite a busy day and lots of work getting ready.
Still have to watch for Tarantulas and scorpions and dengue fever is still quite bad but none on the ranch yet. But the cooler nights should clear up all these problems soon.
Will try and get some pictures with this and get it off as soon as Larry has time.
Love to all
