Return to New Beginnings - New Projects Underway

The Start of the Iglesia Nuevo Amanecer

Larry paints the boards that we had gotten from the local mill, which saws boards as needed when you order them. The paint is oil based, in fact it is a very rare paint that takes a long while to make. First you buy a few litres of oil, then you put it in your car and drive for miles and miles. When you need new oil for your car, you drain out the old and use it as paint. It only comes in crankcase black and is used to keep the termites and other wood eating insects out of the wood. The pile to be done is behind me and you can see on the right side of the picture the pile of Lamina (heavily tarred panels) that will be used to cover the roof.

Larry and Matias Begin

I backed the truck in as a portable staging to put these boards on the roof as a base for the lamina to be put on another day. Matias and I started the day and Alphonse came to help about an hour later.

Alphonse Helps

This is a photo of Alphonse repairing one of the beams. It also showed some of the many workers that showed up to help. They did pick up our nails that were dropped from time to time; but, mostly were just there to be with somebody that was doing something.

Matias Rises to the Occasion

This was toward the end of the day. Matias got up on top of this very shakey structure to nail the boards on the last side. It took more faith than walking on water to move around up there with the structure threatening to collapse with every move he made.
