Return to Preparing For The Mission Season Ahead

Our Truck is Loaded

We were preparing for a Christian Retreat up to Mezquital for the afternoon and evening. Our truck had the sound equipment, chairs, table, and of course the food. We also had the back seat full of people and Jose sitting on the storage compartment between the seats.

Poncho's truck is ready..

Poncho's truck was at the ready, full of people, with Matias' truck following a few minutes later. We are off....almost...Pancho's starter is actually the people on the back getting out and pushing the truck for a jump start...then we are off..

Poncho's truck arrives..

Can you believe the load on this one. The road to Mezquital is much better than last year and only takes a bit over one half hour to do the 18 Km. drive.

The children start to come...

This is the start of the wave of children who showed up for this event, at one point later on I counted over fifty in attendance.

The women start the food cooking..

The women jumped off the truck and got the fires started and the food pots on within minutes of our arrival.

The team sets up the sound system..

This is actually the sound system donated by Pleasant Valley Church in action in Mezquital. It has been a much appreciated addition to the ministry.

There were games..

This is some of the children playing some circle games...and they played this well into the night.

There was singing, preaching, and testimonies..

The service went well into the night with praise groups, Matias and Poncho each preaching a sermon, a pair of Rancharo Christian singers (the local people here love this type of music) and testimonies, then late into the night , we set out for Alamos. Pancho's truck had other ideas and refused to keep going. I towed it for about half the way back; but, the rope broke twice, so we left him and all his passengers along the road and returned to Alamos, unloaded my truck and returned back to Poncho to take his passengers home and leave him sleeping with the truck along the road. It was nearly 2:30 AM as we finally got back to the camper. We slept most of the next day, quite a tiring start to the ministry this year.
